Layout and amenities
Ground floor: Entrance. Spacious living/dining room with large open fireplace. Well equipped open kitchen with gas cooker, electric oven and exit to the garden and the lower level. Bedroom with double bed and access to the garden. Shower room (shower, toilet and sink).
Downstairs (accessible from the exterior): Utility room with washing machine.
Heating: Underfloor heating, with an open fireplace in the living room.
Amenities: Private swimming pool, TV with dvd-player, wi-fi Internet, airco in the bedroom, garden, micro-wave oven, washing machine, barbecue, cot (at request), private parking.
House and surroundings
Casal do Gato was built on the remnants of a small stone farmhouse. Traditional materials were used, like the granite corner stones and the terracotta tiles, all in good taste with the modern conveniences, light and space. Thus a very pleasant holiday cottage for 2 people was created.
From the living room and the bedroom you walk into the garden and to the swimming pool with adjoining patio, where you have lots of privacy. At the far end of the patio, which is overgrown by kiwi plants, is a stone dining table and the barbecue.
From the pool area and the two balconies at the front of the house there is a wonderful view, that on a clear day reaches as far as the Serra do Marão, behind which the river Douro flows.
The grounds of the property, more than 2 acres, consist mainly of meadows bordered by trees and high climbing vines. In the surrounding area, a valley with a clear stream called Rio Peio, you can walk along old lanes, through farmlands, corn fields and meadows, and orchards with olive and orange trees.
The nearest small town is Cabeceiras de Basto (about 6 km away). There you will find all kinds of shops, restaurants, pastelarias, banks, the post office, a pharmacy, a large weekly market, etc. Nearby in Gondarém, at walking distance, there is a café and a small shop with groceries and daily fresh bread.
The distance to the city of Braga is 50 km, and to Guimarães (Unesco World Heritage) 40 km.
- The minimum stay in the high season is 1 week, in the rest of the year 5 days.
- The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
- Cleaning is included, once per week starting 2nd week.
- Pets are not allowed.
- Indoors, although not especially adapted, reasonably suitable for (non-electric) wheel chairs.
- Indoors smoking not allowed.

Information on the way we work:
To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:
- Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
- The name of the property of your choice;
- The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
- The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
- The number of rooms (if applicable);
- Additional information, such as the use of a cot.
We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.
Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.
As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.
In some cases, depending on the property, we will also send practical information and tourist information on the house and its surroundings. Like the directions, this information is a simple html file (Internet page), that can be viewed or printed with any webbrowser such as Internet Explorer or FireFox.
The day of your arrival
On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.
Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…
For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.
