Ground floor: Bedroom with double bed. Large bathroom.
First floor: (can be reached either from the veranda or through the house): Spacious living room with wood-burning stove. Well-equipped open kitchen.
Heating: Wood-burning stove in the living room; electric heaters in the bathroom and the bedroom.
Amenities: Private swimming pool, TV, dvd- and cd-player, wireless Internet (near the main house), toaster, washing machine, barbecue, cot (at request), private parking.
Guest room: in the main house: Double bed, ensuite bathroom, private entrance.

House and surroundings

In the beautiful old village of Casares you will find the Quintal da Avó (“grandmother’s vegetable garden”). It used to be a small farm. The granite built haybarn, now called Casa Pequena, is converted into a very nice and comfortable holiday cottage for 2 people.


During the restauration the authentic elements were preserved wherever possible. The thick walls keep the interior, especially the bedroom downstairs, pleasantly cool in the summer.
In front of the cottage is a patio with a stone table and benches, offering a lovely view on the mountains across. The light of the setting sun on the slopes, strewn with big boulders, is often magnificent.


Next to the house is the large landscaped garden with a private swimming pool and sun deck. In between the garden and the parking place is an original canastro, an elongated stone barn on legs.


The main house is used by the owners, a retired dutch couple. When they are at home they will not use the pool and the garden, these are exclusively for you! However, if you wish, they will gladly advise on sight seeing, restaurants, wine producers, walks in the vicinity, etc.


In the main house an extra double guest room is available. It has its own separate entrance, and it can only be rented along with Casa Pequena, so you can enjoy the whole or a part of your stay with 4 people rather than 2.


The nearest town is Cabeceiras de Basto (10 km). There you will find all kinds of shops, restaurants, banks, the post office, a pharmacy, etc. At walking distance, on the edge of the village, is a café with a shop where you can buy groceries, and a simple restaurant. The baker passes by each morning.
The distance to the city of Braga is about 40 km, to Guimarães (Unesco World Heritage) 35 km, and to the Peneda-Gerês national park 30 km.

  • The minimum stay in the high season is 1 week, in the rest of the year 5 days.
  • The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
  • The guest room can only be rented in combination with Casa Pequena and is only for adults. The rental period can be shorter (3 days minimum).
  • The guest room must be booked at least 1 week in advance.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Not suitable for wheel chairs.
  • The pool has no shallow end.

Information on the way we work


To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:

  • Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
  • The name of the property of your choice;
  • The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
  • The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
  • The number of rooms (if applicable);
  • Additional information, such as the use of a cot.

We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.

The deposit

Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.


As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.

The day of your arrival

On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.

Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…

For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.

It is your holiday, so we won’t bother you with a long questionnaire. But we would greatly appreciate if you could send us an e-mail afterwards, telling us what you thought of the organization and the property.
