Ground floor: Fully equipped kitchen with electric oven. Dining room. Bathroom (shower). Small bedroom with narrow double bed. Terrace. Garden with access to the lake.
First floor: Living room with TV. Bedroom with double bed.

Amenities: TV, wifi-Internet, barbecue, cot (at request).

House and surroundings

The large reservoir of Caniçada (almost 700 hectares) is at the border of the Serra da Cabreira and the Serra do Gerês on the North side. For those who seek recreation by or on the water, alternating with visits to the Portuguese national park Peneda-Gerês, this is an ideal place. The last week of July and the first two of August it can be busy on and around the lake.

By the edge of the lake, just outside the village of Vilar da Veiga, stands Casa Barbara. It is the last of a small group of houses reached by a shared pathway (± 50 mts.). The house is not big, but it offers a pleasant stay for 3 adults or a family with 2 children.
In front is a well-tended garden with direct access to the lake. The terrace, is without doubt a beautiful spot, offering lovely views over the water to the mountains opposite. At the side of the house is a small patio with a barbecue.
The water quality of the lake is frequently monitored by the authorities, and classified as good for swimming (source: http://snirh.pt/).

Past Vilar da Veiga it is only a few kilometers to the spa of Caldas do Gerês, where you find an information centre of the national park. They provide information on flora and fauna of the park, archeological finds (among which the Roman road that once lead from the city of Braga to Rome), walking routes, etc.

The owner of Casa Barbara lets out canoes, pedaloes, and motor boats. He can also help out if you want to (learn to) waterski or make a guided tour with a Landrover through the park.

There are several restaurants and cafés within 5 minutes walk. Shops you can find in Rio Caldo (3 km) and Vieira do Minho (15 km). In Vieira the weekly market is on Monday. The distance to Braga is about 40 km.

The minimum stay in the high season is 5 days , in the rest of the year 2 days.
The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
Pets are not allowed.
Parking at ± 100 metres.
Not suitable for wheel chairs.

Information on the way we work

Booking

To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:

Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
The name of the property of your choice;
The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
The number of rooms (if applicable);
Additional information, such as the use of a cot.

We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.

The deposit

Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.

Confirmation

As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.

The day of your arrival

On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.

Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…

For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.
