Ground floor: Large hall. Games room with 2 sofa beds, which may also be used as an extra bedroom for 2 children up to 12 years. Shower room.
First floor: Spacious living / dining room with open fireplace. Fully fitted open kitchen. 2 Bedrooms; one double and one twin. Shared bathroom. Veranda.
Heating: Open fireplace in the living room, electric heaters in the bedrooms.
Amenities: Private pool, wi-fi Internet, satellite TV, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave oven, cot (at request), CD player, table football, barbecue, private parking.

House and surroundings

Cunhas is a small village on the Southeast side of the Serra da Cabreira. It overlooks a valley where the rivers Tâmega and Beça form the border between the provinces Minho and Trás-os-Montes.
On the outskirts of the village stands Casa da Cortinha, a beautifully restored farmhouse built frow hewn granite blocks. The somewhat plain outer wall hides a surprising interior. You enter into a vast hall which in the autumn serves as a winery. A wide staircase leads to the upper floor, where the living room, kitchen and 2 bedrooms are situated. What immediately catches the eye is the blue, partly woodburning, partly gasburning cooker. Through the living room you step onto the veranda, where you can enjoy your breakfast in the morning sun as well as a wonderful view over the valley and the Trás-os-Montes highlands beyond.

 

Next to the house are a large patio, the swimming pool and the garden with a high wall fencing off the street. Near the pool is a small outbuilding with a shower and toilet.
The surrounding area offers ample opportunity for walking; nearby is an old road that leads through the fields down to the Rio Beça. Uphill into the Cabreira mountains is also a fine possibility. Along the river are several beautiful places to swim, for instance at ± 4 km near the bridge on the secondary road to Ribeira de Pena.
Every tuesday, thursday and saturday morning the baker passes the village. A choice of shops is to be found in the neighbouring village of Moimenta (6 km) .

The nearest larger villages are Ribeira de Pena (17 km) and Arco de Baúlhe (19 km), with all kinds of shops, a pharmacy, the post office, restaurants etc.
The distance to the city of Guimarães (Unesco World Heritage) is 60 km, and to the city of Chaves with its Roman bridge 55 km.

  • The minimum stay is 1 week in the high season, and 5 days in the mid season.
  • The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Not suitable for wheel chairs.
  • Cleaning is included (once per week starting 2nd week).

    Information on the way we work

    Booking

    To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:

    • Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
    • The name of the property of your choice;
    • The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
    • The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
    • The number of rooms (if applicable);
    • Additional information, such as the use of a cot.

    We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.

    The deposit

    Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 3% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
    As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.

    Confirmation

    As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.

    The day of your arrival

    On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
    If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.

    Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…

    For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.

    It is your holiday, so we won’t bother you with a long questionnaire. But we would greatly appreciate if you could send us an e-mail afterwards, telling us what you thought of the organization and the property.
