Ground floor: Large entrance hall with stone stairs to the first floor. Living room with open fireplace. Dining room. Well-equipped kitchen with gas oven, micro-wave oven and dishwasher. Utility room with washing machine and dryer. Twin bedroom with bathroom.
First floor: Second living room with fireplace, TV and card table.
5 Bedrooms; 1 double and 2 twins, each with ensuite bathroom, and 1 twin and 1 single bedroom that share the same bathroom. The central corridor and 3 of the bedrooms all give access to the veranda.
Heating: Central heating, with an open fireplace in both living rooms.
Amenities: Private swimming pool, wifi-Internet, TV, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, micro-wave oven, cot (at request), barbecue, private parking.

House and surroundings

The vines on the estate of Casa do Valle produce one of the best Vinho Verde in the municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto. The vineyards are situated on the South flank of the Serra da Cabreira, in the valley where the river Tâmega marks the border between the provinces of Minho and Tras-os-Montes. The wines are also much appreciated outside Portugal; the Grande Escolha got 91 points from Wine Enthusiast and 91 from Wine and Spirits.


The restored farmhouse, which dates back to the 18th century, has been furnished and decorated in very good taste, and is now in use as a spacious and very comfortable villa that accommodates 11 people. The layout, among others two living rooms, makes it also suitable for two families vacationing together.
Casa do Valle has 6 bedrooms. You can choose how many rooms you want to use: 3, 4 or 6, i.e. for 6, 8 or 11 people. The remaining bedrooms will be closed and not be let out to others, so you will always have the exclusive use of the rest of the house, the garden and the swimming pool!


The villa is situated in a separate part of the estate that is not used for prodution. The owners keep this area in the traditional style with terraced, walled meadows, fruit and olive trees and bordered by high climbing vines. There is a private entrance and parking, and on one of the fields in the middle you will find the swimming pool. From the house and the patio there are wonderful views over the valley and the Alvão and Marão mountains.


The villa stands just beyond the village of Moimenta. There is a café and a small supermarket. Restaurants and more shops are in Arco de Baúlhe (13 kms) and Cabeceiras de Basto (20 kms).

You can reach the river Tâmega by car (2.5 kms) or on foot through the old village (20 minutes). There you find ample possibilities to fish and a praia fluvial (river beach) where you can swim. An organisation from nearby Ribeira de Pena does canoe and rafting excursions.
From Moimenta various paths and lanes lead directly into the hills and mountains of the Serra da Cabreira, a beautiful area for walking.
If you would like to play golf a day, then you can go to the golf course Campo de Golfe de Rilhadas in Fafe (about 40 km), or a bit further away the Vidago Golf Club in Vidago (60 km). More information can be found on the page “travel information” (page – links).
Of course you can visit the adega. The owner of Casa do Valle will be pleased to show you around and tell you more about the winemaking!

  • The minimum stay in the High and Mid season is 1 week.
  • The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
  • Cleaning is included, once per week starting 2nd week.
  • The security deposit is € 300.
  • Pets are not allowed.

    Information on the way we work


    To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:

    • Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
    • The name of the property of your choice;
    • The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
    • The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
    • The number of rooms (if applicable);
    • Additional information, such as the use of a cot.

    We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.

    The deposit

    Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
    As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.


    As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.

    The day of your arrival

    On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
    If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.

    Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…

    For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.

    It is your holiday, so we won’t bother you with a long questionnaire. But we would greatly appreciate if you could send us an e-mail afterwards, telling us what you thought of the organization and the property.
