Ground floor: Living room with open fireplace and balcony. Dining room. Fully fitted kitchen with dining table.
First floor: 2 Bedrooms; one double and one twin; both with ensuite bathroom.
Outbuilding (near the swimming pool): Shower and toilet. Utility room with washing machine and dryer. Covered patio with barbecue.
Heating: Central heating, with an open fireplace in the living room.
Amenities: Private swimming pool, satellite-TV, wi-fi Internet, cd- and dvd-player, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, cot (at request), barbecue.

House and surroundings

Casa Moinho da Porta, situated alongside a tributary of the Rio Ave, is a former corn and saw mill. Partly concealed by a grove of alder and eucalyptus but still very sunny, the gurgling of water in the background, and no sign of other houses in the vicinity – this is an exceptional property on a unique location.

 

The house
The old mill is carefully restored and furnished to the highest standards, with the use of original materials like authentic Portuguese roof tiles and 18th century iron lattice from a nearby monastery. The water course along and under the building has been preserved. The result is a splendid combination of ancient and modern, without compromising luxury and comfort. Not surprisingly the property features in portuguese interior design magazines like Casa Claudia and Blue Living !

 

The house invites you to experience its different atmospheres; at the dining table in the kitchen, in the living room near the open fireplace, on the balcony above the stream, at the table near the open patio doors, behind the desk in front of the bedroom window.
The kitchen leads to a nice shady terrace overlooking the stream. On the patio at the other side of the house, and of course near the swimming pool, you can enjoy the sun almost the entire day.

 

If you only wish to rent the house, suited for 4 people, the studio may be let out to a third party.
The garden of the house and the pool remain private.

 

The studio
At about 15 metres from the house, visible from the patio behind the kitchen, is a guesthouse for 2 people, called “the studio”. More information

 

The nearby village is Taíde, the nearest town is Póvoa de Lanhoso (7 kms, all facilities), with a lively centre, a choice of restaurants and a large weekly market. Worth visiting are the 12th century castle, a restored castro (prehistoric settlement), and the Museu do Ouro (gold filigree).
The city of Braga is 25 km away, Guimarães (Unesco World Heritage) 20 km, and the impressive national park Peneda-Gerês about 30 km.

  • The minimum stay in the high season is 1 week, in the rest of the year 3 days.
  • The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
  • Pool towels are provided.
  • Weekly cleaning is included.
  • Not recommended for small children as the stream runs alongside the house and the garden.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Smoking indoors is not allowed.
  • Not suitable for wheel chairs.

Information on the way we work:

Booking

To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:

  • Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
  • The name of the property of your choice;
  • The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
  • The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
  • The number of rooms (if applicable);
  • Additional information, such as the use of a cot.

We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.

The deposit

Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.

The balance

As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.
In some cases, depending on the property, we will also send practical information and tourist information on the house and its surroundings. Like the directions, this information is a simple html file (Internet page), that can be viewed or printed with any webbrowser such as Internet Explorer or FireFox.

The day of your arrival

On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.

Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…

For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.

It is your holiday, so we won’t bother you with a long questionnaire. But we would greatly appreciate if you could send us an e-mail afterwards, telling us what you thought of the organization and the property.
