Heating: Central heating, with an open fireplace in the living room and in the kitchen.

House and surroundings
Casal dos Zimbros, which got its name from the junipers in the garden, is located just outside the village of Cortiços, in the central part of the province of Trás-os-Montes. For those wanting to explore the fascinating and unspoilt North-East of Portugal, this is the ideal spot!
The old fortified city of Bragança, the vast nature reserve of Montesinho, the imposing crevice of the Douro river that forms the border with Spain, the provincial capital Vila Real with the Mateus palace, all these and many other places of interest are within easy reach due to the recent improvements of the road net.
The house has been renovated with comfortable and traditional furnishings, offering a tasteful mix of antique and new. That’s why, for instance, you will find modern equipment in the kitchen, next to the old fireplace where ham and sausages were smoked.
A large, mature garden surrounds the house, with plenty of space for children to play. The pool area provides privacy and lovely views over the valley. Next to the swimming pool is a games room with table tennis.
Casal dos Zimbros has 5 bedrooms, each for 2 people. You can decide how many rooms (3, 4 or 5) you want to use. The remaining bedrooms will be closed and not be let out to others, so you will always have the exclusive use of the rest of the house, the garden and the swimming pool!
At walking distance, in Cortiços, are a couple of cafés and a small shop with groceries and bread. In the nearby village of Romeu (4 km) is an excellent restaurant.
The nearest town (10 km) is Macedo de Cavaleiros, where you will find shops, restaurants, the post office etc.
Mirandela (20 km) offers a wider choice, being famous for its specialities like cured ham and other cold meats, sheep cheese, honey, almonds and the finest olive oil.
The beautiful reservoir of Azibo (20 km, 400 hectares) provides canoeing and swimming, and in its vicinity are several marked walks.
The beautiful golf course at Vidago (75 km) was re-opened in 2010. It has been completely renovated and extended to 18 holes.
- The minimum stay in the High season is 1 week, and 3 days in the rest of the year.
- The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7.
- Cleaning is included, once per week starting 2nd week.
- The security deposit is € 300.
- Pets are not allowed.
- Although not especially adapted, reasonably suitable for (non-electric) wheel chairs. The ground floor, part of the garden and the pool area are all on the same level.

Information on the way we work:
To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:
- Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
- The name of the property of your choice;
- The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
- The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
- The number of rooms (if applicable);
- Additional information, such as the use of a cot.
We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.
Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.
As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.
In some cases, depending on the property, we will also send practical information and tourist information on the house and its surroundings. Like the directions, this information is a simple html file (Internet page), that can be viewed or printed with any webbrowser such as Internet Explorer or FireFox.
The day of your arrival
On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.
Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…
For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.
