Layout and amenities
Ground floor: Entrance. Dining room. Living room with open fireplace. Large recreation room with billiard, lounge and dining table. Toilet. Fully fitted kitchen with exit to the large covered patio.
First floor: 3 Double bedrooms, of which 2 with ensuite bathroom and one with shower room. 1 Twin bedroom with ensuite shower room.
Heating: Airco (hot and cold), with an open fireplace in the living room.
Amenities: Private swimming pool with separate part for children (depth 0.50m), billiard, TV, dvd player, wi-fi Internet, dishwasher, barbecue, mountain-bikes, cot (at request), microwave oven, coffee machine, washing machine, car port.
House and surroundings
Quinta da Aveleira is a 30 hectare wine estate bordering a tributary of the Douro river. The magnificent Douro landscape (Unesco World Heritage!), with endless terraced vines on steep slopes reaches beyond this quinta.
The land is still very much in use, mainly producing grapes, but also olives, cherries and other fruits. One of the outbuildings of the 17th century manor house is recently converted into a comfortable cottage. The main house itself, the old chapel and the former lagar (winery) are not used or rented, so you will have the exclusive use of the yard, the gardens, the swimming pool etc.
The cottage, which is suitable for 8 people, is charmingly and tastefully decorated with a mixture of antique and modern furniture. Outside the high season it can also be rented by a smaller party, in which case the remaining bedrooms will be closed and not be let out to others.
Next to the kitchen is a large covered patio with tables and benches, where you can have your breakfast or enjoy a long summer evening. Past the chapel at the end of the yard you come to the swimming pool which is surrounded by an ample terrace. There are exceptional views over the vineyards and the mountains in the distance.
The region has lots to offer, from boat trips on the Douro to swimming in the river that runs alongside the quinta, and from the beautiful Romanesque chapel of São Pedro das Águias to the rock engravings of Foz Côa (also World Heritage). Many visitors, however, will like to know everything about the grapes, the wine and the making of port. For those Aveleira’s owners organise wine tasting excursions to their own and other adegas. The high point of the wine season is in early autumn, when you can see or even take part in the grape harvest.
There are a few small shops and a café in the nearby village of Távora (1.5 km). More choice is to be found in Tabuaço (6.5 km), with a supermarket and other kinds of shops, restaurants, banks, the post office, a healthcare centre, and a monthly market.
The distance to Pinhão (with the famous train station on the Douro) is about 20 km, to Peso da Régua 35 km, and Lamego 45 km.

- Weekly cleaning is included.
- The minimum stay in the high season is 1 week, in the rest of the year 3 days.
- The day price for each extra day from the 2nd week = week price / 7 (not during the high season).

Information on the way we work
Booking
To book one of our properties simply send us an e-mail with the following details:
- Your full name, address and mobile telephone number;
- The name of the property of your choice;
- The period (date of arrival and date of departure);
- The number of people (adults and children, plus ages of the children);
- The number of rooms (if applicable);
- Additional information, such as the use of a cot.
We will send you thereupon by e-mail a confirmation with directions for payment. At request we will send you a written confirmation by mail as well.
The deposit
Payments can be made in Euros by an international bank transfer. You can also pay through Paypal, in which case we will make a 2% charge as a contribution to the costs incurred.
As soon as we receive your down payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail, including detailed directions to the property.
Confirmation
As soon as we receive the balance of the payment, we will send you a confirmation by e-mail. In this message we will ask you to let us know – not later than 2 days in advance – the time of arrival, so we or the owner can be on time to welcome you and hand over the keys.
The day of your arrival
On the day of your arrival we or the owner will be at the property at the time you agreed upon. If you expect to arrive later, for instance because your flight is delayed, please let us know as soon as possible.
If we ourselves cannot be at the property on the day or time of your arrival, we will try to come by one of the following days. Of course you won’t need to stay in, waiting for us, so if we don’t meet and you do have questions, don’t hesitate to call us.
Information on shops , restaurants, sight seeing…
For all our properties detailed information is available on shops, restaurants, wine, sight seeing, but also on hospitals, pharmacies, banks, etc. In some cases you will find the information in the house, in other cases we will send it to you together with the confirmation of the payment of the balance.
